Our Story – A letter from Michelle

My grandfather was a crafty man. He liked to make miniature grandfather clocks, model ships, and balls of Christmas lights. It was his interest in genealogy that led him and my grandmother to help with some of David Trimble’s books.

Life gave my daughter and me the opportunity to stay with my grandfather for about a year and a half after he lost his home health nurse.

Both my grandfather and his friend, David Trimble, hold warm places in my heart. I have fond memories of sitting at the kitchen table, listening to them tell the family stories they ran across in their research. I remember my grandfather patiently trying to teach me how to make miniature grandfather clocks and Christmas decorations. And I remember David as kind and wise. A frugal man who would occasionally splurge on 50-cent Burger King hamburgers and chicken sandwiches for our weekly meetings. (He had coupons.)

It was a pleasure to spend time with both of them.

A collection of 3 miniature grandfather clocks sits on a shelf, next to a vase with a single silk Texas Bluebonnet flower. The first, and shortest, clock sits under the leaves of the flower. It is made of a hard wood with a red hue and has a round top around the round clock face, a couple of decorative arms sticking out the side, and a large opening to see the pendulum.
The center clock is made of a lighter wood and has a more detailed, laser-cut detail but no pendulum.
The last clock is a nice brown medium-dark wood. Walnut perhaps? It is the tallest of the three and has a flower-shaped small cutout near the bottom of the pendulum, allowing you to see the swinging pendulum but not the lever that it hangs from.

I enjoyed building miniature grandfather clocks with my own grandfather. The clock to the left was built by him, for his doctor. The center clock was a kit that I put together with my 3-year-old. And the taller clock to the right was my design.

Looking Ahead

My grandfather handed Snug Harbor Productions over to me (Michelle) in 2007. And I inherited David Trimble’s remaining book inventory in 2008. I am always watching for opportunities to add products to Snug Harbor that I believe my grandfather or David Trimble would approve of. I hope to eventually add more genealogy resources, crafts, and wellness items.
